Remington Unveils New Modular Rifle
Earlier this year Remington introduced the R-15 VTR, a modular repeating rifle designed for varmint and predator hunters. The Bushmaster-sourced AR-type rifle was the first of its kind among the industry’s leading hunting firearms manufacturers. Now, building on the success of the R-15, Remington recently announced the R-25 modular repeating rifle, sourced by partner DPMS, designed for big-game hunters. The rifle is available in .243 Win., 7mm-08 Rem. and .308 Win.
The R-25, which comes in Mossy Oak Treestand camo, features a 20-inch free-floating barrel with a recessed hunting crown and a machined aluminum forend. Six longitudinal flutes forward of the gas block provide increased rigidity and weight reduction while promoting rapid barrel cooling. Other features include a receiver-length Picatinny rail, ergonomic pistol grip, front and rear sling swivel studs, a four-round magazine compatible with aftermarket AR .308 Win.-type magazines and accessories and a factory-set trigger pull of 4.5 to 5 pounds. The rifle, which is legal for hunting in most states, also comes with a lockable hard case. The rifle will be available in July, but I wouldn’t wait that long to put in an order. SRP: $1,532.
