Weatherby Vanguards

Weatherby is expanding its offerings to hunters with the introduction of two new custom Vanguards. The Sage Country is designed for sparse, open prairie; the Back Country is engineered for high-altitude hunting.

The Sage Country sports an injection-molded stock with a Desert Camo finish. The rifle’s matte black metalwork is paired with a 24-inch chrome-moly barrel. The rifle also comes with a low-density, rubber recoil pad. Designed for hunters trekking rough terrain in high altitudes, the Back Country weighs in at a meager 6¾ pounds. The rifle’s stainless-steel metalwork and fluted barrel are bead-blasted to a matte finish. Pillar-bedded for improved accuracy, the Back Country features an Ultralight composite stock. To reduce felt recoil, the stock is butted with a Pachmayr Decelerator pad.

Both models feature Weatherby’s famous Monte Carlo design for quick eye-to-scope alignment and faster target acquisition. Length of pull is 135/8 inches. The Sage Country is chambered for 16 calibers from .223 to .338 Win. Mag. The Back Country is available in five calibers, including .257 Wby. Mag. and .300 Wby. Mag. (805-227-2600; weatherby.com)
