Simply draw the blade in a slicing motion entirely through and out of the sharpener while keeping the blade flat against the blade guide. This motion is all it takes to achieve a consistent angle from the heel to the tip. After sharpening to a keen edge, turn the hones over with the hardened steel facing up.
